This week brought the conclusion of “Picturing Maricopa”, a project that I photographed during the month of August.
I worked with the non-profit foundation “MOM Mobile” that provides prenatal and pregnancy care to women in phoenix and its surrounding cities. The women who run this high tech clinic on wheels are amazing, entirely dedicated, and have been working together for the past 13 years. Seeing the number of women come through in a day, I realized how critical it is that this medical care exists, and that we need to remember the human element.
This grant was made possible by the Virginia G. Piper Foundation, and there will be a public showing announced at a later date.

Working on a grant from the Virginia G. Piper Foundation, photographing the non profit Maternity Outreach Mobile (aka The MOM Mobile). They are an amazing group of ladies that have been providing prenatal care to un insured and under insured women for the past 13 years. Their dedication and commitment to cause was inspirational, considering the vast need for care that exists.
Thank you to everyone that participated, and for letting me sit up front in the big rig. The truck is a monster, which by the way, the ladies drive (with their commercial license) and maintain as well!
I have been invited to attend the Lishui Photo Festival in China this November! Thanks to the amazing Laura Moya (from Photolucida fame), for selecting me as her participant and curating a solo show of my project _borderline. I am honored to be one of the American photographers attending the festival in conjunction with 20 other festival directors/curators/gallery owners/museum directors and editors. They anticipate in total more than 100 exhibits of individual photographers and galleries. It should be an amazing experience, especially with the list of people attending. I look forward to seeing my friends from Photolucida. Thank You Laura!
This reads “When I am empty, please dispose of me properly”. When has lunch become so thought provoking?

Its hard to believe that summer is almost over and school starts in just 16 days. We have been on the road for a better part if it, but now I am happy to be headed home. Sans the 111 degrees.
I think it is at this point every year that I wonder why I live in Arizona.

There really is a broken rainbow in this photograph, I wish I could show it to you through the window.
This is one view of the “Motion Sickness” Installation, including Sara’s Legs.

One of my most requested images of all time. My friend Sara and I sitting on the fire escape outside of her Brooklyn apartment. This photo is part of the series titled ”Motion Sickness”, which includes 22 additional images.
When all together, the images are shown in a linear series side by side to create a narrative. The panels wrap uninterrupted around each wall within the gallery.
Now having said that (and before continuing), I should upload the installation views.

I think every child wishes for an eternal summer. Many of my childhood memories revolve around green trees, long days, warm sun and time unaccounted for. It was all about discovery and adventure without fear of getting lost.
That is one of the many things I miss about living on the east coast…….the anticipation of summer. Since we live in Arizona, the seasons are a small luxury that I dream of. I tell my daughter tales of what I did during the summer when I was her age, leaving my house at dawn and returning only after dusk. It was about being outside and playing with what was out there.
2009 is a different time and I think that some of the stories get lost in translation. One thing for sure is that I will always have a a love for June 21st.
